May 17 Meeting Reminder

Hi Everyone,

This is a reminder that our next meeting is tomorrow night, Tue, May 17, 6:30-8:00pm in RM D2 at Colton.

For the meeting:
  • Bring any Human Race donations you solicited  to our meeting tomorrow in an envelope and give it to Mrs. Hartfelt.  On the envelope, please write your name, the total amount, and our agency number: 347.  This way Junior Wings will be credited with the funds.  Don't worry if you haven't received all of it yet, but bring anything you have been able to collect so far.
  • Re-review the language homework that we weren't able to cover at our last meeting: http://web-japan.org/kidsweb/language/lesson2/index.html
  • If you have not yet turned in any prior homework, please do (to Mrs. Hartfelt).
The Human Race was both good exercise and lot of fun!  We had wonderfully sunny day, a nice walk, and a chance to play the taiko.  Did anyone else see the mother grey whale and calf?  We collected a little over $600 from online donations, and we're expecting at least another $300-$400 in cash donations.  While this puts a sizeable dent in the amount we need to raise, we still have a long way to go.  Let's keep it up!

The Soba Party was also a lot of fun.  I will be posting some photos on the blog.  Speaking of photos, if you have taken any and would like to share them with the group, please send them to me and I will distribute them.  Thanks!

Junior Wings 2011 Address Book: I have compiled an address of all the Junior Wings students and families.  This address book will become very handy once the Nanao students arrive as we scramble to contact each other to schedule activities.  It will be handy when trying to remember which Colton student is paired with which Nanao student.  This list will contain basic contact information, that is, name, address, home and cell phone, and email that you provided on your JW application.  Please let me know if you do NOT want your information included.

See you all tomorrow night!

May 7: Human Race Event Details

The basic event information is:
  • Location: Natural Bridges State Park at 2300 Delaware Ave, Santa Cruz, CA 95060 (click address for a map)
  • Continental Breakfast:   7:40 am - 10:30 am
  • Run starts:   8:00 am - 11:00 am
  • Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. Runners start at 8:00 a.m. Walk starts after runners: 7:30 am - 12:30 pm
  • BBQ lunch, music, information booths and more 5/7/2011 10:45 am - 12:45 pm
Plan to meet at the Colton upper parking lot at 6:30AM Saturday morning to caravan to Natural Bridges SP to arrive at 7:30AM.  If you want to go directly to the park, please plan to meet at 7:45AM near the flag poles in front of the main building.  If you can't find it, just follow all of the other people.  Call me if you can't find the group (831-601-1592)!  We will start the walk as soon as everyone gets through registration.

This event is typically very well attended so you might have to park and walk several, if not many, blocks away from the park entrance.  Patience will be the order of the morning as everyone gets registered.  If you cannot meet up with the group until later in the morning, that is fine.  Register yourself, then try to catch up to the group.  We will be walking out to the lighthouse and back, so you will definitely run into us.  Bringing a sun hat and sunscreen wouldn't be a bad idea!  The event should be over by noon.

Please bring your pledge sheets and any money you have collected so far.  Donations that you expect to receive but haven't yet can be turned in at a later date.

We will go over all these details on Friday.

May 6: Soba Party

The Soba Noodle Potluck is on for Friday, May 6, 6:30-9:00pm at the Russell's home at 901 Alameda in Monterey.  While the main part of the meal will be soba noodles, please bring one of the following:
  • beverage
  • appetizer or other finger food
  • side dish
  • salad
  • dessert
Dishes, napkins, cups, and so on will be provided.

This party will also serve as our bi-weekly meeting, so we will be reviewing your homework, and doing some other activities relating to noodles, chopsticks (use & etiquette), and more fun stuff!

We will also discuss the logistics of the Human Race.

Give Dana a call or send him an email if you have any questions.
