Tea Ceremony Details

Tomorrow should prove to be a fun experience!

Please arrive at my home by 12:45.  We must leave for the tea house in Pebble Beach no later than 1:00.
Our address: 901 Alameda Avenue, Monterey CA 93940

Our home is at the intersection of Alameda Ave and Colton Street.  We are on the downhill side of Alameda.

The tea ceremony is a formal, quiet, non-flashy, respectful event.  So please dress accordingly.  Dress nicely, but comfortably as you will be sitting on the floor. I do not recommend tight pants or jeans; you may become uncomfortable.  Also, please do not wear tights or shorts; they are too informal.  For those with long hair, please tie it back so it doesn't fall in your face or tea when you bow!  Remove jangly necklaces and earrings for the same reason.  If you can, please also remove rings, particularly large, showy ones, and any that might scratch or damage the tea bowls.  Please do not wear any perfume or strong-scented deodorant.
Please wear clean, white socks with no holes.  Again, this is a respectful event and everyone WILL see the bottoms of your socks when you sit down.

When we go in the tea house, we must line our shoes up like this:

Last, in spite of all of the above, do not be nervous or afraid because, ultimately, we're are just going to have a cup of tea and a sweet snack.  The tea teacher is very kind, gentle, and generous.

We will be a very large group with 11 students and 8 family members (plus me) making 20, the most we have ever had.

Thank you for everyone's interest!

Tea Ceremony Friday, July 22, 12:45-2:45PM

Tea Ceremony

Date: Friday, July 22
Time: 12:45PM-2:45 PM
Where: Russells' residence (901 Alameda Ave, Monterey)

We will be meeting at the Russells' home at 12:45PM then leave shortly before 1:00 for the tea ceremony in Pebble Beach.  The ceremony itself will start at 1:30 and will last until about 2:30.  I expect we will be back at our house by 2:45.

Please dress nicely, but comfortably with clean, all-white socks.  Remove dangly earrings, necklaces, and bracelets.  Also remove, or don't wear, large or flashy rings.  For those with long hair, please tie it up or back to prevent it from falling in your tea bowl when you bow!

Parents, we will need drivers to help car pool everyone.  Of course, you can participate in the tea ceremony!  Many past parents have said this experience is similar to going to a spa - it is very peaceful and relaxing.  It seemingly transports you to a time and place very far away.

Last, please respond if you can or cannot attend.  I must provide the tea teacher with a headcount as she must prepare the appropriate amount of tea in advance.

Look forward to this experience, it is wonderful, unique opportunity!
